Chemgas operates a complex fleet of gas tankers carrying hazardous materials like ammonia and LPG. They required an intelligent solution to give crew members instant, reliable access to safety-critical procedures stored across a vast, fragmented document management system.
With over fifty QHSE manuals and 1,500 vessel-specific documents, finding precise operational guidance was a slow, manual process. In the high-stakes environment of chemical shipping, any ambiguity or delay in accessing safety procedures represents a genuine risk. The existing third-party system's deep hierarchy made it difficult for crew to quickly verify risks like cargo-to-cargo gassing up procedures.

We developed a retrieval-augmented AI assistant that mirrors the entire document corpus into a high-dimension vector store, providing grounded answers in Dutch and English. The system features a multi-layered safety contract, including a cargo-mismatch detector and an LLM-based critic that audits every response against safety protocols before display.
